Walk in Penn’s Woods: Forestry for Bird and Wildlife Habitat
Sunday, October 5, 2025 | 10:00 AM–12:30 PM
215 Saylors Lane, Easton, PA 18042 (GPS: 40.64200N, -75.20529W)
Join Wildlands Conservancy's Director of Property Stewardship, Carl Martin, Penn State Extention, and the Durham Township Environmental Advisory Council for a guided hike exploring the critical role of habitat diversity in conservation. This 2.5-mile hike takes place on the Horth Easement, a mountain property permanently protected by Wildlands Conservancy where active forest management has been ongoing for several years. While the land remains in private ownership, the conservation easement ensures its natural resources are protected forever, and this program offers a rare chance for the public to experience a property not typically open to visitors.
Participants will see firsthand what real forest regeneration and high stem density look like, while learning about the importance of young forest habitat and the role sunlight plays in forest renewal. Discussions will also highlight how habitat management impacts bird species and numbers, and ways to increase overall wildlife value.
This program is part of Walk in Penn’s Woods, a statewide coordinated event held on the first Sunday in October. Walks across Pennsylvania encourage people to learn how their local woods work, see forests in new ways, and deepen appreciation for our forests so that we can all care well for them.
Please note:
- Terrain is moderately challenging and accommodates foot traffic only.
- No bathrooms are available on-site.
- Well-mannered pets are permitted if they remain on a leash.
Come experience how intentional forest stewardship supports both wildlife and healthy ecosystems, while enjoying the natural beauty of a permanently protected mountain landscape.
