Event Details

The Ironton Rail Trail (total 9.2 miles) is on what used to be the Ironton Railroad. It’s near the former Crane Ironworks, one of the very first iron works using anthracite coal. This small area spurred the industrial revolution in the USA. Part of the trail is a wide, mostly level, paved 5-mile loop. A beautifully restored caboose stands near the trail, which winds near the historic Saylor Cement Kilns. This is an ADA approved trail.

If you want to delve into some fascinating history, the IRT Fall Historical Walk is on Oct 26 at 9 AM ‘til about 1 PM. Meet at the Whitehall Parkway Red Barn, 4041 Chestnut Street.

Dogs on leash are welcome—scoop your pooch’s poop. Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear comfortable footwear. Restrooms are available. We will walk 3 miles our and back, or a 5 mile loop.

This walk is part of the Get Out! For Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network.

ADDRESS: 3853 Chestnut Street, Whitehall PA GPS: 40.670997, -75.507982

DIRECTIONS: From MacArthur Road in Whitehall, about 3.6 miles north of US-22, there’s a Sheetz gas station at Chestnut St. Turn east onto Chestnut Street for a half mile. Turn into the parking lot with the pavilion on your right. We will meet there.
