DESCRIPTION: Where: 28th Street SW, Allentown, PA 18103\nGPS: 40.558951, -75.471495\nLength: ~3.5 miles\nDuration: ~2.5 hours\n\nJoin us for a winter hike through two remarkable natural areas: the Robert Rodale Reserve—designated a State Significant Area—and Wildlands Conservancy’s 440-acre South Mountain Preserve. This primarily out-and-back route includes a scenic loop along the Bug Trail. Participants who prefer a shorter outing are welcome to turn back at any point.\n\nThe trail is mostly single-track with rocks, roots, and seasonal leaf cover. Along the way, we’ll pass impressive rock formations, walk beneath a powerline right-of-way, and stop at a viewpoint overlooking south Allentown—where, on clear days, the Blue Ridge is visible in the distance. Total elevation gain is approximately 265 feet.\n\nIf we need to warm up afterward, we’ll head to a nearby local eatery for optional food and conversation.\n\nWhat to Bring: Water, snacks, layers appropriate for the weather, non-cotton clothing, and sturdy footwear. Hiking poles are recommended. Dogs on leash are welcome. Please note there are no bathroom facilities on site.\n\nThis program is part of the Get Out! At the light, turn left onto 31st St. and continue 0.3 mile to W. Emaus Ave. Turn left onto Emaus Ave and drive approximately 0.4 mile to 28th Street (Dollar General will be on your left). Turn right onto 28th Street and continue toward its end. Park along the residential streets.
