Paddle along the scenic river, tour this hidden gem, and learn about the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve our region’s natural resources. Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and conservation-minded adventurers alike, this program invites you to enjoy the Lehigh River’s beauty while playing a role in safeguarding it for future generations.
The Experience
Paddle the Lehigh River:
Canoe from Sand Island Park and navigate the tranquil waters of the Lehigh River, leading to the exclusive Wildlands Conservancy Island Preserve, Freeman’s Island.
On Freemans Island:
Once we arrive at the island, enjoy an informative talk led by Wildlands Conservancy’s Director of Property Stewardship, Carl Martin. Carl will share insights into the island’s biodiversity, ecological significance, and Wildlands’ ongoing stewardship efforts across our nature preserves.
Bike Along Scenic Trails:
Transition to bike and ride a 7-miles on the historic D&L Trail, enjoying picturesque views of the Lehigh River. Along the way, learn about the interconnected ecosystems and the trail’s role in regional conservation.

Explore Freeman’s Island, a protected area rich in biodiversity and ecological importance, only accessible by boat.
Wildlife Encounters:

What to Bring
· Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for biking and paddling.
· Reusable water bottle, light snacks, and a lunch.
· Sunscreen, sunglasses, and weather-appropriate layers.

· All necessary equipment is provided, including bikes, canoes, paddles, and PFDs.
· Participants must know how to ride a bike.
· This program is best suited for adults.
· No prior experience in paddling is required—our guides will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
· We are not offering a "bring your own boat" option at this time.
