Explore a Northampton County park in a whole new way by snorkeling beneath the surface of the Lehigh River! This guided river experience invites participants to discover the hidden world of macroinvertebrates, fish, and aquatic habitats while learning what these organisms reveal about water quality and river health.
Participants may spot schools of fish, sunfish turning red as they guard their nests, and even trout zipping by in the current. Using provided snorkeling gear, we’ll get an up‑close look at river life and discuss how aquatic insects and other macroinvertebrates serve as indicators of a healthy ecosystem.
All snorkeling equipment is provided, and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are required and provided. If water levels or conditions are too high for safe snorkeling, the program will transition to a hands‑on, land‑based water quality study, ensuring a meaningful experience in all conditions.
This program is offered free thanks to funding from Northampton County Parks.
