PreK Pathfinders is part of a monthly series designed for children aged 3-5 and their grown-ups.This interactive program encourages exploration, learning, and discovery through hands-on activities, stories, and outdoor adventures, tailored to spark curiosity and connect young children with the natural world. Each child-adult team will embark on a shared experience designed to nurture early learning skills and foster a love for nature. Please note that registration is required only for the participating children, however each child must be accompanied by an adult. This month:
Calling all animal lovers! During Animal Detectives, children and their caregivers will work together to uncover the secrets of wildlife.
Explore the outdoors as a team, searching for animal clues like tracks, feathers, and nests. Together, you’ll solve nature’s mysteries, building observation skills and a love for wildlife along the way. The highlight of your adventure? Meeting a live animal up close! Discover what makes it special and how it connects to the clues you’ve uncovered. This program is perfect for curious little ones and their grown-ups who want to connect with nature.

Stream Team 2026: Emmaus Community Park & Berger St
If you’re ready to go with the flow, join us as we maintain vegetative areas along streams (riparian buffers) and help ensure the survival of young, native trees in the forest buffer. These vital areas improve water quality in local communities, reduce erosion and flooding concerns, and provide habitat for wildlife.
Park: in lot off of T Miklencic Dr, 1330 Chestnut St, Emmaus, PA 18049

Volunteers will:
- Maintain tubes placed over the trees to protect them from deer
- Remove invasive vegetation
- Straighten any leaning trees and re-stake if necessary
Volunteers must:
- Be 16 years or older OR be accompanied by a parent/guardian if under 16. Volunteers under 16 will not be permitted to remain onsite without a chaperone.
- Be able to work outside for the duration of the shift, on uneven ground
- Wear safe footwear and clothing that can get dirty. Long-legged pants and boots are recommended- shorts, skirts, and open-toed, or slip-on shoes aren't suitable.
Working Conditions:
- Participants should be prepared for anticipated weather conditions. Stream Team events will run rain or shine except for severe weather conditions.
- Gloves, tools, water, and snacks will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own.
- Participants should bring bug spray, sunscreen, and hats as desired to protect from the elements.
- Some locations will have restroom facilities, though others will not, so participants should plan accordingly.
- Sites may have tall vegetation and muddy conditions.
- Stinging insects may be present, please bring allergy medications if this is a concern.

Join us for a magical evening exploring the glowing world of fireflies! During this family‑friendly field study, our educators will guide you through the basics of firefly behavior, bioluminescence, and why these insects are important to our ecosystem.
Families will take part in a simple citizen science project, using easy observation techniques to count fireflies, note flash patterns, and record environmental conditions. Your data will help support ongoing research on firefly populations and conservation needs.
Enjoy a gentle night outdoors, learn something new together, and help protect these amazing insects for the future.
This program is offered free of charge thanks to funding from the Lehgh County.
