Stream Team 2026: Trexler Nature Preserve- Mill Crek, Elk & Bison
If you’re ready to go with the flow, join us as we maintain vegetative areas along streams (riparian buffers) and help ensure the survival of young, native trees in the forest buffer. These vital areas improve water quality in local communities, reduce erosion and flooding concerns, and provide habitat for wildlife.
Parking: parking by barn at 4210 Mill Creek Road, Schnecksville, PA 18078

Volunteers will:
- Maintain tubes placed over the trees to protect them from deer
- Remove invasive vegetation
- Straighten any leaning trees and re-stake if necessary
Volunteers must:
- Be 16 years or older OR be accompanied by a parent/guardian if under 16. Volunteers under 16 will not be permitted to remain onsite without a chaperone.
- Be able to work outside for the duration of the shift, on uneven ground
- Wear safe footwear and clothing that can get dirty. Long-legged pants and boots are recommended- shorts, skirts, and open-toed, or slip-on shoes aren't suitable.
Working Conditions:
- Participants should be prepared for anticipated weather conditions. Stream Team events will run rain or shine except for severe weather conditions.
- Gloves, tools, water, and snacks will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own.
- Participants should bring bug spray, sunscreen, and hats as desired to protect from the elements.
- Some locations will have restroom facilities, though others will not, so participants should plan accordingly.
- Sites may have tall vegetation and muddy conditions.
- Stinging insects may be present, please bring allergy medications if this is a concern.

Embark on an exciting Wild Mushroom Foray at Minsi Lake, led by Wildlands Conservancy’s Veronica Rosenberger! This guided adventure invites you to explore the fascinating world of fungi, perfect for beginners and seasoned foragers alike.
During this hands-on program, you’ll learn how to search for, collect, and identify wild mushrooms while uncovering key tips on fungi safety, identifying look-alike species, sustainable harvesting, and resources to continue your foraging journey.

PreK Pathfinders is part of a monthly series designed for children aged 3-5 and their grown-ups.This interactive program encourages exploration, learning, and discovery through hands-on activities, stories, and outdoor adventures, tailored to spark curiosity and connect young children with the natural world. Each child-adult team will embark on a shared experience designed to nurture early learning skills and foster a love for nature. Led by our Senior Restoration Ecologist and a Wildlands Environmental Educator, this program connects participants to Wildlands’ mission to protect natural landscapes while fostering environmental stewardship through science, discovery, and exploration. Distance: 2–4 miles (loop options available) Duration: 2 hours
Maple Tract Preserve is part of the Fern Ridge Bog complex, a 1,390‑acre landscape permanently protected through a partnership between Wildlands Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, and Tunkhannock Township. This glacial bog system supports rare and declining species, including the northern flying squirrel, while protecting downstream water quality.
The 688‑acre preserve features over 7 miles of trails through wetlands, forests, and along Tunkhannock Creek. Our hike will travel sections of Brian’s Trail, maintained by dedicated volunteers. Trail options allow participants to complete shorter or longer loops depending on preference. Terrain consists of single‑ and double‑track trails over gently rolling forested land.
What to Know
- Open to all ages
- Bring water, snacks, and insect repellent
- Wear sturdy shoes (may get wet), long pants, and layers
- Hiking poles optional; some available to borrow
- Leashed dogs welcome
- No bathrooms are located on site

Join Wildlands Conservancy for an engaging Wildlife Meet and Greet designed for nature lovers of all ages. The program begins with an interactive presentation featuring Wildlands’ fascinating wildlife ambassadors. Participants will learn how these animals play vital roles in supporting wildflowers and healthy local ecosystems. After the presentation, enjoy a guided hike through Louise Moore Park, where we’ll explore native wildflowers, observe pollinator habitats, and look for wildlife in their natural environment while discussing conservation efforts and seasonal blooms.
